Hot-dip galvanizing is the most effective and environmentally friendly way to protect steel from the elements. It provides a long-term solution to corrosion and can provide maintenance-free protection for up to 50 years. It is an environmentally friendly process and highly cost-effective compared to other applications on the market such as paint and electro-plating.
Correct drainage and venting holes will need to be included within your fabrication process to avoid the risk of explosion when subjected to the high temperatures of molten zinc during the coating process. Correct drainage will also enable the material to be chemically cleaned thoroughly, please contact a member of the team for further advice on venting and draining.
Material should also be free from oil, grease, weld slag, labels and paint to avoid poor surface coverage.
Yes, galvanizing is a much more robust and cost-effective option. When damaged, other protective methods such as painting or plastic coating will expose the steel and cause rust. Hot-dip galvanizing offers a much more efficient and sustainable method of protection.
The life expectancy of galvanized coatings is in excess of 50 years in many rural environments. With severe urban and coastal exposure, galvanizing will still give you a 20 to 25 year life, if not longer.
