Corbetts completes installation of new galvanizing kettle

Corbetts has reached an exciting milestone with the installation of a brand-new galvanizing kettle, marking a major step forward in our commitment to quality and operational efficiency. The project, which spanned 14 days, was an impressive logistical and technical achievement, showcasing the expertise and dedication of our team and partners.

The installation process

The process began with the closure of our production line on 16^th December. A specialised team, including galvanizing equipment suppliers, a zinc pot specialist, fabricators, and crane operators, worked alongside Corbetts’ staff to execute the installation. The key steps were as follows:

Removing the old kettle

The zinc was carefully extracted into three holding vessels kept at 400°C, with a total capacity of 200 tonnes. The remaining zinc was poured into moulds to be reintroduced later. The enclosure around the old kettle was dismantled, and cranes were used to lift it out.

Preparing for the new kettle

Remedial work ensured the area was ready, and installation plates were set in place.

Installing the new kettle

Precision crane work was essential to position the kettle without damage. After installation, the zinc was pumped back, and the enclosure was rebuilt.

Overcoming challenges

Complex projects like this come with challenges. Corbetts managed these with precision, from maintaining the molten zinc at the correct temperature using three commercial generators, to co-ordinating the movement of equipment and ensuring customer commitments were met during the temporary closure of B Plant.

The result: enhanced quality

Once the plant was operational, the new kettle began to deliver exceptional results. The quality of the galvanized products has already been praised, showcasing the benefits of this upgrade.
