Few materials match the durability and aesthetic appeal of steel fencing: the most popular choice in the UK for securing property boundaries due to its strength, longevity, and customisable design options, including height, style, and colour (once galvanized). Steel fences are everywhere, often unnoticed until we seek them out. They serve various purposes, from restricting access to high-risk areas to creating safe spaces like children’s play areas. Steel is inherently strong and resistant to warping or rotting, requiring little maintenance. However, untreated steel is vulnerable to the elements; prolonged exposure to rain and weather can cause rust and brittleness, leading to costly replacements and repairs.
Fortunately, there’s a proven method to combat the elements and extend the life of steel: hot-dip galvanizing.
Hot-dip galvanizing is the most effective way to protect steel from corrosion. At Corbetts, we’ve been perfecting this process for over 160 years, offering a long-term solution that provides maintenance-free protection for up to 50 years. This process is not only cost-effective but also environmentally friendly when compared to alternatives like paint or electro-plating. Hot-dip galvanizing significantly reduces the need for maintenance, prolongs the lifespan of products, and prevents rust from taking hold. By investing in galvanized steel, manufacturers and councils contribute to a more sustainable future.
During the galvanizing process, steel parts are submerged in molten zinc at approximately 450°C (842°F). This post-fabrication process creates a robust protective coating, enabling the steel to withstand the elements for years. Adding aluminium to our zinc bath ensures the shiniest, most professional finish, saving time and effort as the steel requires no cleaning before installation.
We operate out of our bespoke, purpose-built facility with two galvanizing kettles. These allow us to process items up to 7.6 meters in length and to double-dip items up to 14 meters.
From our central location in Telford, we service clients across the UK. Our in-house transport fleet can collect your products and deliver them back once galvanized, saving you time and effort.
