Corbetts is always looking for ways to improve processes and maintain the high standards we have come to be known for in hot dip galvanizing. That’s why we are thrilled to announce the arrival of our brand-new galvanizing kettle, straight from Germany!
We have taken delivery of a massive 27,700kg kettle that will be installed in our B-plant facility during our planned December shutdown. This substantial investment underscores our commitment to staying at the forefront of galvanizing technology and maintaining the exceptional quality our customers have come to expect.
For the galvanizing process, the zinc kettle is a crucial piece of equipment. It’s where the magic happens – the molten zinc bath that gives steel its protective coating. Our new kettle is designed to withstand extreme temperatures and resist melting or rusting, ensuring a long service life and consistent performance.
The kettle will maintain the zinc bath at a temperature of about 460°C (860°F), creating the perfect environment for the galvanizing reaction. When steel parts are immersed in the molten zinc, a metallurgical bond forms between the zinc and the steel surface, creating several layers of iron-zinc alloy. This process is what gives galvanized steel its renowned corrosion resistance.
With this new kettle, we are not just replacing old equipment – we are upgrading our capabilities. The size and design of our new kettle will allow us to handle a wide range of steel parts, from small fasteners to large structural shapes. This versatility will enable us to serve an even broader range of customer needs and industries.
The addition of this new kettle, along with our recent implementation of the new chemical TIB-CH03, reflects Corbetts’ forward-thinking approach. We believe in staying ahead of industry changes, investing in cutting-edge equipment, and recognising our staff’s continuous drive for excellence.
