B-plant closes Saturday 14th December at 2pm
B-plant re-opens Thursday 2nd January at 6am
At Corbetts, we are always looking for ways to enhance our processes and uphold the high standards we are known for. That’s why we are thrilled to announce the moment we all have been waiting for: the installation of our brand-new, custom-built galvanizing kettle, which came straight from Germany!
This massive 27,700kg galvanizing kettle was carefully designed to optimise our galvanizing operations. The installation process will start on Monday 16th December 2024 and will be complete by Thursday 2nd January 2025. While the installation requires a temporary closure of our B-plant, we’ll continue operations at our A-plant to minimise disruption and start the new year with both facilities fully operational.
We have a strong determination to provide excellence by investing in our equipment and our people, and this step of our journey solidifies our commitment to deliver the exceptional quality our customers expect.

The zinc kettle is the centrepiece of any galvanizing plant – it’s where the magic happens. By dipping steel in a bath of molten zinc at a temperature of 460°C (860°F), the steel undergoes a transformative process that provides the renowned corrosion resistance galvanizing is celebrated for.
Built with a 50mm-thick wall, this galvanizing kettle is expected to deliver approximately 10 years of reliable service, depending on throughput. At Corbetts, we want to ensure consistent performance and quality for today and for the future.
After years of service, the existing kettle at our B-plant reached the end of its life. Zinc naturally corrodes the surface of the kettle over time, thinning its walls and compromising safety and efficiency. By replacing it now, we are ensuring the continued reliability and quality of our operations.
The old kettle, true to our sustainability ethos, will be sold as scrap and likely recycled, closing the loop on its lifecycle. This commitment to sustainability is a testament to our values and our responsibility towards the environment, solidified by our ISO 14001 accreditation for Environmental Management.
The new kettle, valued at over £250,000, matches the size of the previous one (5.5m long, 1.2m wide, 2.5m deep), but will have an enhanced performance due to being new and not having any contaminates floating in the zinc. Its installation represents a significant step forward for Corbetts, allowing us to improve product quality, reduce contamination, and operate more efficiently.
At Corbetts, we see this investment as more than just an equipment upgrade. It embodies our forward-thinking approach, ensuring we remain a leader in the galvanizing industry. This project is part of our ongoing efforts to innovate: for example, we have recently transitioned to the new chemical TIB-CH03 for surface treatment. These updates reflect our dedication to keeping pace with industry advancements and providing our team with the tools they need to excel. This commitment to innovation ensures that we are always at the forefront of the industry, ready to meet the evolving needs of our customers.
Our skilled workforce is central to our success, and we are proud to support their efforts with cutting-edge equipment. By combining their expertise with state-of-the-art tools, we’re setting Corbetts up for continued success.
